Band Director: Billy Rich

Billy Rich grew up in Bowling Green, KY, where he attended Warren East High School. While in the high school band, Mr. Rich participated in such events as All-District (3 times), WKU Honors Band (3 times), and Quad St. Band Festival at Murray St. (2 times). At first, he played the trombone, and then switched to euphonium.

After high school, Mr. Rich attended Western Kentucky University as a Music Education major. During his career at college, Mr. Rich was principal euphonium player for the WKU Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble for one year. In 1999, he became a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity. As an active member, Mr. Rich served as secretary, vice-president, and historian. In May 2003, Mr. Rich graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education.

In 2005, Mr. Rich returned to the hill to work on his masters degree. He also served as a graduate assistant for the band department. During this time, Mr. Rich was also the assistant director of both the Big Red Basketball Band and the Big Red Volleyball Band. He had opportunities to conduct the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and the Southern Kentucky Summer Band. Mr. Rich graduated in 2007 with a Masters Degree in Education.

Mr. Rich currently holds active memberships in the following professional organizations: National Education Association (NEA), Kentucky Educators Association (KEA), Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA), Music Educators National Conference (MENC), Third District Music Educators Association (TDMEA), and Third District Band Directors Association (TDBDA). Mr. Rich is now in his second year of teaching in Metcalfe County. During this time, he has led Metcalfe County to two regional appearances. The band has never before qualified for regionals in two consecutive years. During the upcoming years, Mr. Rich’s goal is to help make the band bigger and better.

All parents are encouraged to become members of the band booster program. All aspects of the band are discussed at band booster meetings, such as fund-raisers and special events. Meetings take place on the first Monday of every month at 5:00PM. The dates are as follows:
